Plagiarism Policy

SPEED: Sports Performance and Physical Education Development maintains a strict policy against all forms of plagiarism. Upholding academic integrity is one of the core principles of the journal, and we are committed to ensuring that all published work is original, properly cited, and ethically produced.

1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of presenting someone else’s work, ideas, data, or words as one’s own without proper acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, figures, tables, or data from another source without citation.

  • Using someone else’s research findings or unpublished work without permission or credit.

  • Submitting a manuscript that is a duplicate or substantial reproduction of the author's previous work (self-plagiarism) without appropriate citation or justification.

  • Paraphrasing significant portions of another work without attribution.

2. Plagiarism Detection

All submitted manuscripts to SPEED are screened for plagiarism using reputable plagiarism detection software (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, or similar tools).

  • Manuscripts with similarity index above 25% (excluding references, quotes, and properly cited content) will be automatically returned to the authors for revision or rejected outright, depending on the extent of the overlap.

  • Even if the similarity is below the threshold, any suspicious or improperly cited content will be carefully reviewed by the editorial team.

3. Handling Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected before publication:

  • The manuscript will be immediately rejected.

  • The authors will be informed of the findings with a request for clarification.

  • In cases of minor overlap, the editor may request revisions with proper citation and rewording.

If plagiarism is detected after publication:

  • The article may be retracted from the journal's website and databases.

  • A notice of retraction will be published, explaining the reason.

  • The authors’ affiliated institution(s) may be notified.

  • The authors may be blacklisted from submitting to the journal in the future.

4. Authors' Responsibilities

Authors are expected to:

  • Ensure that all submitted work is their original creation.

  • Properly cite all sources, including ideas, text, or data from others.

  • Avoid self-plagiarism by citing any of their previously published work reused in the manuscript.

  • Use plagiarism checking tools before submission to ensure compliance.

5. Editorial Responsibilities

The editorial team will:

  • Use plagiarism detection tools during the editorial screening process.

  • Review reports thoroughly and investigate any indication of misconduct.

  • Treat all allegations of plagiarism seriously and fairly.

  • Take appropriate actions in accordance with international publishing ethics guidelines (COPE – Committee on Publication Ethics).

6. Conclusion

SPEED is fully committed to promoting ethical research and academic honesty. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable and will be treated as a serious violation of publishing ethics. Authors, reviewers, and editors share the responsibility to uphold the integrity of the scholarly record.
