Pengaruh Small Sided Games Terhadap Peningkatan Kemampuan Passing Sepakbola

Abstract

Physical education plays a crucial role in developing students’ physical, technical, and character skills, with football being one of the most popular sports worldwide. Passing, as a fundamental technical skill in football, is essential for maintaining game flow and creating scoring opportunities. Previous studies have shown that Small Sided Games (SSG) can improve technical abilities, yet research focusing on the application of SSG in international schools in Indonesia remains limited, particularly with a mixed-method approach that combines quantitative and qualitative insights. This study aims to examine the effect of SSG on improving football passing skills among junior high school students and to explore their learning experiences during the training process. A mixed-method design with a Sequential Explanatory approach was employed, beginning with a quasi-experimental method using a pre-test and post-test design on control and experimental groups, followed by interviews and observations. The participants were grade VIII students at Little Sun School Surabaya, with 25 students in the control group and 25 in the experimental group. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in passing skills among the experimental group, while qualitative findings revealed that students perceived SSG as enjoyable, engaging, and supportive of teamwork, despite challenges related to training intensity and variation. The study concludes that SSG is an effective and practical method for enhancing passing skills, offering practical implications for physical education teachers and theoretical contributions to sports education literature.
