The Effect of Plyometric Training on the Change of Direction Ability of FIKK UNM Squash Players
Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of plyometric training on the ability to change of direction in squash players of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, State University of Makassar (FIKK UNM). The ability to change of direction is essential in a squash game that demands a quick response to balls coming from different directions. The study used a pre-test and post-test group design with a total of 20 subjects. Plyometric exercises are carried out for 6 weeks with a frequency of 3 times per week. Measurement of directional change ability is performed using the Illinois Agility Test. The results showed that there was a significant increase in the experimental group (p < 0.001) with an average time decrease of 1.42 seconds. Meanwhile, the control group showed a less significant increase with an average time decrease of 0.13 seconds. The results of the independent t-test also showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the post-test (p < 0.001). It can be concluded that plyometric training has a significant influence on improving the ability to change of direction in squash players. This exercise is recommended as part of a regular exercise program to improve the performance of fast movements and changes in the direction of athletes.
